Jaanisaar ~ A Saga of Love, Art and History

Jaanisaar is an epic on the conflict of cultures in British India after the first war of Independence. Set in the 1870s in Avadh, the film explores the decline of its composite culture that seamlessly integrated Hindu and Muslim identities. The metaphor is the passionate love story between the anglicized King Ameer Haider and Noor, the fiery courtesan. Directed by Muzaffar Ali, the film explores the clash of ideologies and the kindling of the flame of independence. It takes us on a nostalgic, musically rich journey through the grand palaces of Imperial India and England, to the lush forests of Kotwara.
